Many of you will have been aware of the claims and counter claims regarding how vets vaccinate dogs. At Pet Doctors, we have been closely examining the objective scientific evidence for these claims. Until now we have not felt that the evidence has justified any change to our previously-recommended protocols. Our priority has been and remains safety first.
Recently, however, a new vaccine has become available which has prompted the change to our current protocols. Part of the schedule involves administering the vaccine into the mouth. It is a great advance as the level protection is improved as is the safety. Over 10 million doses have been used overseas with good results and importantly reduce potential for adverse effects. From July we are switching over to this new vaccine.
This new protocol applies to dogs only. Our vaccination recommendations for cats remain unchanged.
