Many vets on the Coast run puppy school classes for their most fresh-faced clients, because the benefits of enrolling your pooch in one of these classes are so important to starting your new pup on the right path in life.
That first 6 months is a vital period for every four-legged friend out there, and here’s how puppy school can help:
TRAINING ADVICE
Learn basic training techniques for commands such as “sit”, “drop” and “stay” from an industry professional.
SOCIALISATION
Teach your puppy how to adjust and behave with a group of other dogs the same age. Similarly, socialisation also includes exposure to a number of different environments, objects, other pets, situations and people. The more they are exposed to as pups, the more likely they will grow into an outgoing and sociable dog.
GENERAL HEALTH ADVICE
Although your vet will discuss topics such as vaccinations, parasite control and nutrition with you, many owners still have questions on topics such as grooming, handling, teething, nail clipping, dental health and feeding that can all be addressed during class.
MANAGING PUPPY BEHAVIOR
Puppies can be a handful sometimes, and dealing with their puppy behaviours can often leave new owners a bit confused. Chewing, biting/mouthing, jumping on people, barking and inappropriate and rough play are all best nipped in the bud and puppy school is the best place for advice on how to use positive reinforcement.
ADORABLE PHOTOS ARE A MUST
For the last class Pet Doctors brings in a professional photographer to take your new pup’s photo. The result: A gorgeous reminder of your furry best friend as a puppy for when they grow up into the great dog they will become!
Puppy school provides a safe, calm environment for you and your puppy to learn and bond and at Pet Doctors we consider it a privilege to be a part of that. If you are interested in enrolling in our puppy school program please contact us on 5576 0400.
